Understanding National Flood Insurance Program
Wednesday, March 24, 2021 (9:00 AM - 11:00 AM) (CDT)
Description
Floods are the most common and most destructive natural disaster in the United States. A high percentage of all natural disasters involve flooding, and many areas of the country have experienced floods or flash floods in recent years. Damage from flooding is not covered under a standard homeowner’s policy. Flood insurance is a special policy that is federally backed by the (NFIP), the National Flood Insurance Program, and available for homeowners, renters and businesses. The National Flood Insurance Program aims to reduce the impact of flooding on private and public structures. It does so by providing affordable insurance to property owners and by encouraging communities to adopt and enforce floodplain management regulations.
